RE: First Team Build
The first thing I would suggest is finding the EVs and IVs on your Pokemon. To check EVs you can get a reset bag, save your game, reset your stats, and the changes made are what your current EVs are. You can then restart your game from your saved point and do it for the other Pokemon. To find IVs in ORAS, which is the game I'm assuming you are playing, there is a guy at the top right of the Battle Resort Pokemon Center. Here is a good list to see the information he is giving you, http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stats_judge The first real step in getting a competitive team is making sure your stats are as good as possible. I suggest doing this first, as helping make a team better is hard without seeing what your Pokemon's true purpose is supposed to be.

RE: First Team Build
Dragalge is the setup, drop two toxic spikes and swap out to one of the tanks (Umbreon or, Diancie), or in a pinch Lucario. Umbreon is for stalling / reset to switch into Venasaur. If things are stable enough Gengar comes out instead of Umbreon or Diancie. When I'm back at my PC ill run the IV/EV calculator and post the results.

RE: First Team Build
So as on PO I've been tasked with helping import your team in to PO. I've made a few changes whether it be items, moves, or EVs. These changes aren't final and I really just want you to use it as a base for building your own team as that is how you really get better.

Dragalge (M) @ Draco Plate
Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 228 HP / 252 SAtk / 28 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball

On Dragalge I got rid of Facade and Gunkshot as he is mainly a special attacker. I also removed Poison Touch for Adaptability as this usually helps him more. I then gave him a Draco Plate to power up Draco Meteor to get easy KOs once you are done setting up.

Diancie @ Diancite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Protect

No changes made besides nature and adding EVs. A solid build overall.

Umbreon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Moonlight
- Curse
- Toxic
- Foul Play

Good set, added Foul Play as you can get stuck with steel and poison types that will completely wall you with only toxic.

Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 148 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hex
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave

Since the set you had made me think of him more as a support Gengar rather than a all out attacker I changed his moveset to complement him better. Will-O-Wisp to power up Hex and cripple physical attackers. Taunt to stop anyone trying to set up on you, and then Sludge Wave for STAB and coverage. I also changed Spooky Plate to Black Sludge as extra health each turn is worth more than a little extra power.

Lucario (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Extreme Speed
- Detect
- Close Combat
- Iron Tail

Lucario got a few changes. A better nature, as well as an ability that usually helps him more, and giving him Iron Tail over Facade allows him to deal with squishy and slow fairy types.

Venusaur (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 144 SDef / 20 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain

I changed Poison Barb to Black Sludge for the same reasons as Gengar. I also replaced Venoshock for Giga Drain as there is no reason to have two poison moves on him, and giving him a STAB attack is always good.

Go to your team in team builder, click options, and then click on Import Team. Insert this text,

Dragalge (M) @ Draco Plate
Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 228 HP / 252 SAtk / 28 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball

Diancie @ Diancite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Protect

Umbreon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Moonlight
- Curse
- Toxic
- Foul Play

Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 148 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hex
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave

Lucario (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Extreme Speed
- Detect
- Close Combat
- Iron Tail

Venusaur (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 144 SDef / 20 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. :)

RE: First Team Build
In addition to what Kirby Master said I would suggest checking out Smogon.com. They have a good strategy page for building teams and were great for me when I first got into battling. I would also check out this link on what Natures do in competitive battling as it's super useful:

http://www.psypokes.com/lab/natures.php

But EV/IVs/other sites aside let's take a look at what you can do in terms of Held Items, Moves, Abilities, and Natures to make a couple of your Pokemon better:

Dragalge

The first thing I would do is change its nature from Hasty to Modest. Modest nature will give it a 10% boost in Sp. Atk. Additionally Dragagle is a really slow Pokemon. So instead of trying to make a bad stat acceptable, we should focus on making an acceptable stat good. Secondly I would give it Black Sludge for a held item. The ability to recover your HP is great for a slow lead since this could potentially extend Dragagle's life by several turns. I would also change it's ability to Adaptability. This raises your STAB moves (moves that are of the same type as the Pokemon using them) from 1.5x damage to 2x damage. You don't need the other abilities if you're going to be laying down Toxic Spikes either. It's moveset seems pretty okay, but I would consider using Sludge Wave over Gunk Shoot (it's weaker but more accurate) and definitely drop facade for Draco Meteor. Draco Meteor is such a strong move and will give you an answer to any Dragon type that decides to switch in on you, like Garchomp for example.

Diancie

Your Diancie is pretty good and I wouldn't change it up too much. However I would switch its Nature from Serious (doesn't give you any Stat boosts) to Timid (gives you +10% speed). Also you don't need Diamond Storm on Diancie since that's a physical attack on a special set. Instead, I would try using Earth Power or Psyshock.

I'll just leave it at here for now. You'll notice that polishing up these little things will make a big difference when battling. Since you're on PO I can help you more there if you want. Good luck! Grin

RE: First Team Build
Thanks everyone.
What I view as my next steps:
1) Gain meaningful understanding of IV's and how breeding plays into resulting into the IV's you want to achieve.
2) Gain a more meaningful understanding of EV's and properly applying them.
3) Take this team as what it is and that being the first iteration of a concept
4) Rebuild each member of the team with respect to steps 1,2,3 and the input provided from KM and TPM.
5) Find at least 3 additional Pokémon that are viable alternates for variances I will face.

OP Please Close thread. Thanks everyone for your input its deeply appreciated.
