EV’s - Effort Values
When you defeat other pokemon you get effort values. Every pokemon gives a certain amount of effort values in a Stat. e.g Ekans gives you 1 Attack EV while Metapod gives you 2 defence Evs. For every 4 EV’s that stat will go up by 1. Your pokemon can have a MAX of 510 EV’s and a max in any one stat of 255. However as 255 isn’t divisible by 4 but 252 is you’ll get the same stat gains as having 252 in that stat so you save 3 ev’s and if you use 252 twice and not 255 twice you will get 6 to use in another stat. Ev’s can give you a difference in stats of 69 .. If you had an adamant Garchomp and you didn’t EV train it and it had maximum Iv’s in attack. Its attack would only be 325 but if you give it 252 Attack EV’s its attack would be 394...
There is no way to check EV’s in the game. To find them you have to count them manually. EV’s are NOT shared if another pokemon has an experience share. Both will get the amount of ev’s the pokemon gives. E.g. Charmander defeats a metapod it gets 2 defence EV’s. Squirtle is holding an experience share, it also gets 2 Defence Evs.
When you gain EV’s you will notice the difference when you level up if you are a high level, if you are a low level it may only be +1 more than your stat will go up normally. For example if a lvl 99 Heatran defeats 30 Charizards he will get 120 Special Attacks ev’s and his Sp Attack will go up 30 (120/4) + Random Number when he levels up. If it was a lvl 5 charmander though that defeated a charizard his level would go straight up so he’d get 3 Ev’s but because he’s levelling up so quick you won’t notice the difference, however when he gets to a higher level you will.
Vitamins give you 10 Ev’s in whatever stat they are meant to (e.g. Carbos - Speed, Iron - Defence) However you can only use 10 Vitamins in one stat (100Ev’s in a stat) so you do still have to work for it… So you could use 10 Vitamins in any 5 stats and 1 Vitamin in the other stat. You would not be able to use 10 vitamin’s in every stat as you would go over the 510 EV limit.
The following berries remove 10 EV’s from a certain stat but the first one lowers the EV in that stat to 100 so you will never need to use more than 11.
Pomeg - Removes HP EV’s
Kelpsy - Removes Attack EV’s.
Qualot - Removes Defence EV’s.
Tomato - Removes Speed EV’s.
Hondew - Removes Special Attack EV’s.
Grepa - Removes Special Defence EV’s.
EV Training Items - These items will help you with EV training.
Macho Brace - This hold item doubles the amount of EV’s you will receive so if you defeat a metapod while you are holding the Macho Brace you will get 4 Defence EV’s and not 2. You get this for showing a man Pastoria City the 3 types of Burmy.
Power Items - These give you certain EV’s… If you are holding a power Anklet for example you will 4 Speed EV’s no matter who you battle. So for example you battle a Metapod and you are holding a power Anklet you will get 2 Defence EV’s and 4 Speed EV’s. There are power items for every stat. The power items are found at the battle tower for 16 BP.
PKRS
Pokerus (PKRS) is a rare virus found in the wild. You have a 1 in 21,845 chance of getting the virus. You will know if you have encountered it as when you go to a pokemon center you will be told. It is transmittable between pokemon but will go after a day and will not be transmittable. After a day however you will still get the effects of PKRS but will not be able to spread it. You will not lose PKRS if you put your pokemon in the computer. PKRS doubles the amount of EV’s you get from battling a pokemon. So lets say you had PKRS and killed a Metapod you would get 4 Defence EV’s. If you had a macho brace and PKRS and you killed a metapod you would get 8 Defence EV’s.
