Actually its best to get a caterpie or metapod and evolve it into butterfree so you can beat brock easily with confusion.

Mankey is better you just have to use low kick and its an easy sweep.

I always beat Brock with Pikachu, just level it up until it learns Double Team, and if you make it reach 20 you get Slam. Use Double Team so often Onyx can't help it and always miss, use Slam or Quick Attack until it faints.
is mt moon the same as fire red or a little different
